PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas having improved hydrocarbon adsorbing ability, preventing the discharge of a large amt. of hydrocarbon discharged immediately after the start of an engine into the air and capable of also preventing the discharge of NOx into the air. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst layer is formed on a monolithic carrier with a slurry prepd. by mixing ZSM-5 zeolite subjected to ion exchange for copper and/or palladium with an acidic silica sol having 3-10nm particle diameter and water to obtain the objective catalyst for purification of exhaust gas.
