Amphiphilic nucleoside phosphate analogues of formula (I) and their salts are new. R1 = OH, amino (opt. acylated or alkylated or substd. with polyoxyethylene, and in which the acyl and alkyl gps contain 1-24C and up to 2 double bonds and are opt. substd. with an aromatic gp); R2- H, F, 2-bromovinyl or 1-24C alkyl; R3 and R4 = each H, OH, halogen or azido; R5 = a nucleoside gp of formula (N) or OH; R6 and R7 = as defined for R1 R2 and are opt. different from R1 and R2; one of R8, R9 and R10 the O which forms the bridge with (I) and the other 2 gps = each H, OH, halogen or azido.
