Described is a device for damping periodic motions of a body or mass, in particular oscillations, the device having, fixed to the body or mass, a housing (2) containing a spring-biased damping element (1) capable of moving relative to the housing. The cross-sectional area of the damping element is comparable with the internal cross-sectional area of the housing so that a fluid (3) filling the interior of the housing can only flow past the damping element with a non-neglible resistance or through apertures in the damping element. The oscillation behaviour of the damping element relative to the housing, determined by the restoring force of the at least one spring element (5) disposed between at least one end of the damping element and at least one inside end wall of the housing, can be approximately described only by a non-linear equation of motion. |
