PURPOSE:To lengthen the cycle life at high rate discharge by adding an additive and strontium hydroxide to a negative active material mainly comprising zinc oxide and/or metal zinc. CONSTITUTION:As shown in Table 1, polytetrafluorethylene is added to mixtures A-E obtained by adding an additive such as indium hydroxide to zinc and zinc oxide serving as anode active material. After adding water to the mixture and kneading them, the mixture is rolled with a roller to form a sheet. The sheets are pressed against both sides of current collecting plate measuring 5cm in length and 4cm in width, and dried to obtain zinc electrodes A-E. Four pieces of each of electrodes A-E are combined with three pieces of conventional nickel electrode having the same dimension as the zinc electrode and a separator comprising a microporous film and nylon nonwoven fabric to manufacture nickel-zinc storage batteries A-E. The battery using zinc electrode added with strontium hydroxide shown excellent cycle life. |
