A ratchet spanner has a housing (1) which contains a rotatively mounted sprocket (2) provided with circumferentially distributed teeth and a toothed detent pawl (3) whose teeth engage or can be disengaged from the teeth of the sprocket (2) by moving the detent pawl (3). In order to allow such a ratchet spanner to transmit substantially higher torques, the sprocket (2) and the detent pawl (3) are axially arranged next to each other and are provided at their mutually adjacent front faces with interlocking teeth (21, 31) arranged in a ring which can be brought in and out of engagement by axially moving the detent pawl (3). The teeth (31, 32) are designed as left-handed or right-handed saw teeth and are axially pressed against each other by a constant elastic force. |
