A safety razor blade has on its cutting edge an adherent coating consisting essentially of a fluorocarbon polymer melting between 310 DEG C and 332 DEG C and having at 350 DEG C a melt flow rate from 0.005 to 600 grams per ten minutes (as determined by a modified A.S.T.M. method which is described), the coating being in situ by heating above its melting range and having a thickness from 0.1 to 0.3 micron throughout at least a major part of the zone extending from the ultimate edge for a distance of about 50 microns. The blade may be of carbon steel or stainless steel. The curing step may be performed in an inert or reducing atmosphere or in vacuo. The polymer may be applied as an aqueous or non-aqueous dispersion by dipping or spraying, preferably by electrostatic spraying.
|
