1,092,272. Secondary batteries. P. EISLER. May 22, 1964 [March 4, 1964], No. 28350/67. Divided out of 1,092,271. Heading H1B. The invention comprises a method of charging a secondary battery in which charging is stopped at a voltage immediately below that at which substantial gassing occurs. The battery comprises a plurality of bipolar plates separating electrolyte compartments, each plate having an impermeable barrier layer between the active materials containing particles of impermeable carbon arranged to form electrically conductive pathways from one side of the layer to the other. In the case of a lead/acid battery, the charging may be stopped at 2-3 volts per cell. |
