A method for taking a core sample from the ground comprising providing a tubular liner (16) within a tubular casing (3) which has an annular culling shoe (6) at one end; using percussion to force the lined casing down into the ground with the shoe end leading, whereby, a core of soil enters the liner through its lower end; and recovering the liner containing the core from the casing. <IMAGE> |
