Continuous extn. of by-products of plants, partic. vines involves preliminary sorting of seeds from pulp and transporting each component to the appropriate treatment station. Pulp is transported to a vessel (3), supplied with steam via its horizontal axis (4) which dilates the prod. prior to hydrolysis. The prod. is then transferred to the hydrolysis vessel (6) where it is treated with water, or recycled juice from collection vessel (7), supplied from a vessel (10). Each series of vessels (3,6,7,10) forms a treatment unit and a series of units are associated with each liquid supply vessel (10) receiving juice from the previous unit to enrich extracted juice. A hopper (12) collects treated plants and a final collection vessel (16) collects the enriched juice for subsequent treatments e.g. fermentation, distn. salt and colourant extn.. USE/ADVANTAGE - Low cost, recovery of by-products, e.g. alcohol, anthocyanin, tannin, oils, mineral salts etc. from vines. Continuous operation producing enriched liquid for subsequent treatment.
