The conveyor consists of an endless belt or chain around whose periphery are fastened fingers or rods (6) which stick out normal to the belt surface or chain track. The distance between the rods should be greater than the thickness of the hinged sidewall (10) of the crate to be washed, and the hight of the rods is less than the depth of the crate. The crate (8) has openings in the sides and bottom. It is placed on the conveyor for washing with the sides hanging loosely downwards and the fore and aft sides (10, 12) trapped in the spaces between the rods. ADVANTAGE - Container sides do not have to be locked in position. Conveyor can be rapidly loaded. Effective cleaning due to inverted position of container.
