PURPOSE:To sufficiently reflect difference of toner consumption quantity due to difference of characteristics of images so as to accurately supply toner by weighing image data values by means of appropriate factors corresponding to the characteristics of an image data group. CONSTITUTION:An image data is converted into a binary system and input to a characteristic extraction circuit 34, and characteristics such as sort or space frequency of the image are extracted. A developer consumption quantity in response to the developer consumption characteristic decided from the image characteristic and the mean image concentration from a mean concentration computing circuit 32 is judged by a judging circuit 35. Namely, the curve of developer consumption characteristic is selected from the image sort in the judging territory, and one point (consumed developer quantity judged value) on the curve corresponding to the value of space frequency of the image in the judging territory is decided. This operation is repeated for full territory of the image, and the supply quantity of developer can be estimated by adding the result by a section for supply timing of developer, e.g. by one image. |
