<p>A polypeptide or corresponding nucleic acid sequence defining at least one repeat unit with the sequence (I), said sequence imparting fibronectin binding activity to the polypeptide; or a variant of the said sequence in which charged amino acids are similarly concentrated in two domains, each domain having at least two negatively charged amino acids and at least one positively charged amino acid in a substantially continuous periodicity within the repeat unit thereby imparting fibronectin binding activity to the polypeptide; the polypeptide being of less than 40 kD, preferably less than 30 kD. The polypeptide and nucleic acids are useful as anti-streptococcal vaccines, probes or antigens. A hyperexpressed fusion protein of a streptococcal derived polypeptide is also disclosed along with the corresponding gene, expression vector and host cell.</p> |
