A system (100) for delivering electrical impulses, comprising a current source (110) and a switch (120), of suitable magnitude and frequency to the inner lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The system (100) senses motor activity of the intestinal tract from electrodes (334 and 336). The system monitors pH of the gastrointestinal luminal contents by electrode (320) and receiver (130). The system (100) includes a delivery port (232) for administration of fluids or materials to the gastrointestinal tract, and/or for removing fluids or materials. The system comprises a pH recorder (430) and a pressure recorder (440) and a muscle activity recorder (450). |
