In the control valve (30) a braking device is fitted, which brakes the linear movement of the movable valve plate (10) just before it reaches the closed position. The braking device can be used as a friction brake on the pivoting action of the operating lever (23), or as a braking piston for the linear movement of the valve plate (10).An external control mechanism acts on the outer arm of the operating lever (23) which pivots in the housing. The other arm acts on the moveable valve plate which in turn controls the quantity of liquid in a linear direction over the fixed valve plate (11)
