Process for treating residues which are highly polluting for the environment, such as, for example, residues originating from dry or wet filtrations. The process consists in mixing the residues with a product containing iron oxide, placing the mixture in a crucible (5), protecting the crucible (5) with insulating fibres (6), arranging the crucible (5) in a microwave oven (1) and exposing the mixture to microwaves for a period of between 2 and 15 minutes at a temperature of between 1000 DEG and 1300 DEG C to produce dry melting of the mixture and to obtain a solid material.
