PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst having a high conversion rate for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide by using doped platinum, etc., as an active component in a monolithic catalyst element with throughflow passages of ceramic etc., coated with an activity-promoting dispersion coating. CONSTITUTION: A fine particulate metal oxide is surface-modified Al oxide, titanium oxide, silicon oxide, zeolite or a mixture thereof which is obtained by mixing the fine particulate metal oxide or the mixture thereof into an alcoholic soln. of a precursor for titanium oxide and/or silicon oxide with stirring, removing the alcoholic solvent with stirring continuously, drying the residual solid at a elevated temp., and after pulverization, calcining titanium dioxide or silicon dioxide at 300-600 deg.C for 0.5-4 hours while decomposing the precursor for titanium oxide and/or silicon oxide. Platinum, Pd, Rh and/or Ir doped with V is (are), included as (an) active component(s) on the carrier. |
