1,119,165. Monitoring charge movement in shaft furnaces. GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FORDERUNG DER EISENHUTTENTECHNIK m.b.H. 2 Dec., 1965 [2 Dec., 1964], No. 51276/65. Heading F4B. An arrangement for monitoring the movement of the charge in a shaft furnace comprises at least one pair of radio-active sensors arranged one above the other to emit signals when the charge falls below the level of each sensor, the signals being fed to devices which produce an indication proportional to the rate of descent of the charge. The signals from the sensors may be used to start, stop or restart integrators forming the time integral of the blast rate, which in normal operation is proportional to the rate of charge descent. If this integral exceeds the appropriate value before the upper sensor emits its signal, the charge has bridged above it, and a warning light is energized. Similarly, a warning is given if the charge bridges between the upper and lower sensors. When the integral reaches a set value after being returned to zero at the signal from the lower sensor, a charge signal is energized or an automatic charging process initiated. Several pairs of sensors may be spaced round the furnace to eliminate errors due to a slanting charge surface. |
