PURPOSE:To improve the reaction gas diffusing properties to a catalyst layer of a gas diffusion electrode and increase the critical current density by providing an electrode made of a foamed metal or a foamed metal for which water repelling treatment is done. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of a polymer electrolytic substance film 101 are sandwiched with carbon porous bodies 102 which carry a catalyst and the outsides of the resulting body are sandwiched with foamed metals 103 whose outsides are treated for water repelling and further the outsides of the obtained body are sandwiched with bulk electrodes. Preferably, of the foamed metals 103, the parts where water repelling treatment is not carried out are coated with a corrosion resistant material. Consequently, the diffusing property of a reaction gas to the catalyst layer of a gas diffusion electrode is improved. |
