PURPOSE:To obtain a safe copying device free of damage to a photosensitive body, which is caused by a jammed sheet, and an electric shock. CONSTITUTION:The copying device is provided with photosensitive bodies 1A-4A on which electrostatic latent images are held, developing means 1B-4B which develop the electrostatic latent images on the photosensitive bodies into toner images, a carrier 8 which rotates adjacent to the photosensitive bodies 1A-4A and can holds a recording sheet thereon, and means 11 and 12 for detecting a jammed recording sheet. The device prepares a copy by transferring the toner images on the photosensitive bodies 1A-4A to the recording sheet on the carrier 8. The copying device is further provided with a means which, when the jam detection means 11 and 12 detect a jam, rotates the carrier 8 at least one time and eliminate charges building up on the surface of the carrier by means of a destaticizing unit 10; when the carrier 8 rotates, gaps whereby at least damage to the photosensitive bodies 1A-4A by the jammed sheet on the carrier 8 can be evaded are provided between the photosensitive bodies 1A-4A and the carrier 8. |
