The surface finishing mechanism has a tumbler drum (2), moving relative to the workpieces and fitted with abrasive treatment material (5). The latter is firmly coupled to the drum inner surface. Pref. the treatment material is formed as mats consisting of plastics fibres, guiding material may be contained in the mats. The tumbler drum is rotatably mounted on a frame (4).
