The control installation includes a unit (100) for generating velocity instructions for a motor (12). The functions of this unit includes reception of reference velocities, as well as reception of emergency shut-down instructions. The unit is (100) designed to alter the gradient of the delay pattern of the reference velocity - via alteration of the conversion constant of this velocity - in such a way that a given value of this velocity is reached in a predetermined time after actuation of a stoppage switch. The control system for a multi-roll rolling installation (for example) consists of individual motor control installations. It is characterised by the fact that a given value of the reference velocity for all motors of the rolling installation is reached at the same time. Pref. the unit (100) is provided with two velocity conversion devices located respectively before and after a rate-of-change limiter. The motor control system forms part of an overall plant control system incorporating additionally sensors, a process computer and an emergency stoppage device. USE/ADVANTAGE - In multi-roll plants (for metal rolling, annealing, plating, paper and film processing etc.). It allows all rolls to be stopped at a same, given time (which is important in the case of emergency plant shut-down).
