PURPOSE:To expand an air bag in proper timing adapted to a state of collision and reduce the cost by calculating the magnitude of acceleration on the basis of an output signal outputted by a forward and backward acceleration sensor and detecting a vibrational change in the output signal to judge the collision on the basis of the magnitude of the vibrational change and acceleration. CONSTITUTION:An acceleration level calculating means A2 calculates the magnitude V of acceleration from an output signal G of a forward and backward acceleration sensor A1. A vibrational change calculating means A3 detects the vibrational change BP in the output signal G. A judging means A4 judges collision on the basis of magnitude V of the vibrational change BP and acceleration. A judging means A5 calculates a time during which the magnitude of acceleration exceeds a predetermined value to judge the collision on the basis of the time and acceleration V. An air bag actuating signal output means A6 judges whether or not the air bag should be actuated on the basis of the result of judging by the judging means A4, A5 to output the actuating signal for expanding the air bag. |
