PURPOSE:To discriminate not only the presence of a defect in a butt-welded part, but also the properties, such as the shape, inclination, etc., of the defect. CONSTITUTION:When a defect 7 in a butt-welded part 6 is detected by pulse reflection ultrasonic inspections, sectional ultrasonic inspections are performed by changing the incident angle of ultrasonic waves 5 to the defect 7. The flatness, apparent inclination, and apparent symmetric property of the defect 7 and the difference between the highest and lowest intensities of reflected echoes are found from the incident angles and intensities of the reflected echoes corresponding to the incident angles obtained as the results of the sectional ultrasonic inspections. Then the properties, such as the shape, inclination, etc., of the defect 7 are discriminated from the founds results. |
