The glass substrate (1) has waveguide tracks (2) on its surface and a grooved channel (4). The fibre optic cables are stripped at their ends (5), and each stripped section is placed across the channel and along the surface of the substrate, to connect to the track. A bar section (8) above the substrate holds the fibre-optic cable in place and a second bar (9) has channels (11) for the passage of the fibre-optic, held in place on the substrate by an adhesive (16). USE/ADVANTAGE - Eg for divider or multiplexer. Allows multiple fibre-optic connections without loosening of adhesive fastening.
