A centrifuge vessel (10) for performing immunoassays, affinity chromatography, and other experiments includes a center tube (11) for containing a biomaterial capable of specific binding with analytes in test samples and an outer waste chamber (15) for collecting waste fluid removed from the center tube (11) by high speed rotation. A cap (20) connected to the outer waste chamber (15) and extending over the center tube (11) includes means for preventing the waste fluid from re-entering the center tube (11). For preventing fluid from re-entering the center tube (11) the cap (20) can be made of or have an inner surface (23) coated with a hydrophobic material. The cap (20) can also include a dam (32) or a sponge (50) which allow waste fluid to pass into the waste chamber (15), but prevent the waste fluid from re-entering the center tube (10).
