1,136,087. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. 16 Dec., 1965 [17 Dec., 1964], No. 53425/65. Heading F4K. In a rotary regenerative air heater, in which the regenerative mass is divided into inner and outer coaxial units each working at a different temperature, intermediate elements interconnect the inner and outer units, permitting different thermal expansion of the inner and outer units. In the embodiment shown, the element 3 is a spacer member fastened to the tangential wall 2 of the outer unit and the outer wall 1 of the inner unit, the walls 1 and 2 being flexible, and yielding to thermal stress. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2) the intermediate member is in the form of brackets (9) secured one to each wall 1, 2 with a lubrication layer between the contacting surfaces of the brackets. In other embodiments, the intermediate members are in the forms of sleeve and piston joints (Fig. 3), pivotable tie-rods (Fig. 4), plate-like members (Fig. 5), hinged rods (Fig. 6), and radial walls with expansion corrugations (Fig. 7). |
