Appts. has membrane stage(s) producing a depleted retentate and an enriched permeate. The retentate (13) is delivered to a stripping-type desorption stage (15) which discharges the retentate in highly purified form. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is used e.g. for sepg. matter (e.g. 1,2-dichloroethane) in the form of volatile components from liquids, e.g. waste waters. It provides efficient sepn. even of small amts. of dissolved matter, allows retentate discharge to the environment, allows direct recycling of the recovered matter and is simple and inexpensive to mfr. and operate.
