Filter for a gas stream, especially from a fluidised bed

An impingement filter is described for cleaning particulate material, such as a powder, from a gas stream. The filter comprises a bed of beads 12 which are impermeable to liquids and are adapted to trap powder entrained in the gas stream. The filter is especially useful in cleaning a gas which exits from a fluidised bed apparatus 1. A liquid may be sprayed into the bead by head 8 end the beads may be agitated to loosen the trapped particles and return them to the bed. The apparatus is especially useful in agglomerating particles or in coating them.
