Media e.g. bank cheque marking and authentication process - using spectral analysis of two coloured marks printed on surface of media during manufacture

The process marks the medium concerned (1) with at least two different coloured inks (5) forming a permanent pattern (3,4) on at least one surface (2) of the medium during an early stage of manufacture. Illumination of the marks and spectral analysis of the reflection allows authentication of the document. Automatic verification of the media is then possible at any stage during its handling. USE/ADVANTAGE - Identification and authentication of media such as bank cheques preventing fraud.
