PURPOSE:To obtain a silylbiphenyl compound simply, inexpensively and in high yield by reacting an organomonohalosilane with a 4-halophenyl metal halide, then introducing zinc, etc., and reacting the resulting reaction product with 1,4-dihalobenzene, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are 1-10C chain organo; X<1> is halogen) is subjected to first coupling reaction with a compound of formula II (M is magnesium or zinc)(preferably Grignard reagent) in a solvent such as THF preferably at 0-80 deg.C to synthesize a compound of formula III, to which magnesium or zinc is introduced to synthesize an organosilylphenyl metal halide of formula IV. This compound is subjected to second coupling reaction with a 1,4-dihalobenzene of formula V (X<2> is halogen or cyano; n is 0-4) or 4- cyanobenzene in the presence of nickel or palladium catalyst in a solvent such as THF preferably at 0 deg.C to room temperature to give the objective compound of formula VI such as 4'-organosilyl-4-halobiphenyl.
|
