The forged circular casing (1) is closed at the rear by the plate (4), and the nose-piece carrying the crown-wheel, pinion, and differential assembly, is bolted to the front ring (2, 2c). The sockets (3a, 3b) for the axle tubes are welded to the casing. There is an optional internal stiffening ring (2d). Various methods of manufacture and assembly of the parts are described. ADVANTAGE - Manufacturing costs are reduced, quality is improved, and material waste is reduced. |
