Natural gas preheating unit - has explosion safety device preventing damage to housing and burner pipe

A natual gas preheating unit (1) has a housing (2) contg. a U-shaped burner pipe (5) with ends (6, 7) which project from the housing and which are connected, respectively, to a burner (8) and a chimney (9), an economiser (12) being integrated in the chimney-side limb (11) of the burner pipe (5). The novelty is that (i) an explosion safety device (13) is located in the chimney-side limb (11) of the burner pipe (5) upstream of the economiser (12) and has a tube (21) which extends out of the housing (2) into the burner pipe (5) and which has an explosion vent flap (24) at its outer end; and (ii) compensators (30, 32) are provided between the housing and the tube to allow tube movement at least in the plane of the chimney-side limb (11) of the burner pipe. USE/ADVANTAGE - The unit is used to preheat compressed natural gas to prevent freezing in downstream equipment, e.g. measuring devices, or pipelines when the gas is expanded for supply to consumers. The design prevents explosion damage to the burner pipe and the housing.
