384,433. Actuating controllers. SMITHSON, J. G., Oakdale, Alvechurch, Worcestershire. Dec. 1, 1931, No. 33270. [Class 38 (iii).] Checked by motor current.- A pedal or handlever for actuating the starting and rheostatic braking controller of a vehicle motor n, is combined with an air-operated reaction device such as a cylinder d and piston c, the supply of air to which is controlled by an electromagnetically operated valve mechanism responsive to the motor current. When the rheostat arm b is moved by a pedal a, the increase of motor current in a solenoid l moves a core k against a spring m, and by means of a lever j, opens a spring-biased valve e, and allows a spring-biased valve f to close, so that air under pressure is allowed to pass from a supply q to the cylinder d, and oppose the movement of the pedal a. Air also passes under pressure to a cylinder p, and lifts the core k to allow the valve e to reclose without opening the valve f. As the motor current falls the core k is lifted still further by the spring m and the pressure in the cylinder p, so that the valve f is opened and the air exhausted at r. The pressure on the pedal a is thereby relieved, and further unchecked movement is possible. The checking operation is repeated when the motor current rises again. The pistons and cylinders may be replaced by diaphragms. |
