A portrait photographing camera incorporates a taking lens assembly having a predetermined focal length, and photographs a human head on to instant film. A pair of index marks are indicated within a field frame of a viewfinder. According to the index marks, the human head is framed or targeted. The framed human head is photographed, so as to create an image having a predetermined range on the film. In a preferred embodiment, a Telephoto converter lens is selectively mounted on the taking lens. Combined with the Telephoto converter, the taking lens has a longer focal length. A second pair of index marks are indicated within the finder field frame. The human head as framed at the second index marks is photographed at the longer focal length so as to create on the film an image laid out like the former predetermined range. Further, a range finding device measures a subject distance of the human head. When the subject distance is too far for photography through the taking lens without attachment, a Telephoto indicator lamp displays in the viewfinder instruction for mounting the Telephoto converter. <IMAGE>
