摘要 In a modification of the process for making linear amide-modified polyimides as claimed in the parent Specification, at least one aromatic dianhydride other than pyromellitic dianhydride is used instead of or in addition to pyromellitic dianhydride. In a modification of the process, an aromatic dianhydride is reacted in the presence of a solvent with m-phenylene diamine, p:p1-diamino diphenyl methane, p:p1-diamino diphenyl ether, p:p1-diamino diphenyl sulphide and/or p-phenylene diamine, the product being reacted with iso- and/or tere-phthaloyl chloride. The examples describe the manufacture of polymeric intermediates from m - aminobenzoyl - p - amino anilide and (I) to (III) benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (BTDA); (IV) 4:41-diaminodiphenyl ether and BTDA; (V) to (VII) BTDA and pyromellitic acid dianhydride (PMDA); (VIII) 4:41-diamino diphenyl ether; BTDA and PMDA; (IX) 4:41-diaminodiphenyl sulphide, BTDA and PMDA; (X) m-phenylene diamine, BTDA and PMDA; and (XI) 1:4:5:8-naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride; the products of the examples being converted to the final polymers by the application of heat.ALSO:A process for making an insulated electrical conductor comprises reacting m-amino-benzoyl-p-amino anilide in a solvent with a substantially equimolar amount of at least one aromatic dianhydride to form a soluble polymeric intermediate, depositing a coating of said intermediate on an electrical conductor and heating to produce an insoluble aired linear amide modified polyimide. Example I describes the coating of a No. 17 copper wire with an amide modified polyimide made from m-aminobenzoyl-p-amino anilide and benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride.
