PURPOSE:To obtain an image high in contrast and superior in quality by using a developing solution high in stability and to reduce black spots by incorporating a specified nucleator in a silver halide emulsion layer and a specified compound in an emulsion layer and/or a hydrophilic colloidal layer. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion layer contains the nucleator represented by formula I and the emulsion layer and/or the adjacent hydrophilic colloidal layer containing no silver halide emulsion layer contains the compound represented by formula II or III. In formulae I-III, R1 is an aliphatic or aromatic group; R2 is H or alkyl or the like; G1 is -CO-, -SO2-, etc., each of A1 and A2 is H, or one of them is H and the other is optionally substituted alkylsulfonyl or the like; R in formula II is an aliphatic or aromatic group, etc.; Z is an atomic group necessary to form an N-containing hetero-cyclic group; R in formula III is an aromatic group; and B is phenyl or naphthyl.
