The invention relates to a storable stepladder, made for this application from aluminium, the design of which is such that the top step comprises two halves, and a pivot point is selected in such a manner that, when the step is folded down, one half slides partially beneath the other half. This structure results in a folded-down size which is as flat as possible in the folded-down state, while nevertheless maintaining a step area which is as comfortable as possible (width 140 mm). The bottom step is attacked to a scissor-link mechanism and is folded outwards by this mechanism when the ladder is being set up. The scissor-link mechanism is also used to limit the extent to which the legs spread apart. The small, flat design makes the stepladder which, in two-step design, has a folded-down length of 500 mm (three-step 750 mm, four-step 1000 mm), extremely suitable for storage in cupboards. <IMAGE>
