The flasher control unit has an inertial mass displaced by braking and operating a mechanical switch to activate the hazard flashers when a set retardation is exceeded. The switch automatically resets when the retardation is reduced. If the retardation is above a second, higher level then the switch is locked into the operation position and can only be reset using a release switch (2). The second level includes impact and flip-over. The second, higher level is controlled by a second switch and a holding relay. Other switches monitor the position of the vehicle and activate the flashers if the vehicle flips over. The speedometer needle indicator can be automatically locked at its higher setting for subsequent accident analysis. The manual control of the flashers is not effected by any of the automatic modes. ADVANTAGE - Improved safety, indicates heavy braking as well as accident hazard.
