The door restraint comprises a sliding piston (3) dividing the cylinder into two chambers (7, 8) which communicate via a flow regulator, allowing a reversible flow in dependence on the displacement of the piston. A control valve (13) is associated with a pair of opposing non-return valves (10, 11) inserted in an overflow channel (9) between the cylinder chambers. The control valve has a stepped piston which is displaced axially against a spring bias via a control pressure applied to the smaller piston face. The operating force can be servo assisted via an electrically operated pump allowing the fluid to be pumped from one chamber to the other. ADVANTAGE - Easy movement of door between different opening angles.
