Breaking up and recovering the individual materials which make up a low pressure discharge lamp involves sepg. the upper body (1), loosening the light material inside the discharged vessel (2) by vibrating hot air heating the discharge vessel to remove it sepg. the glass connection pieces from the straight tubular part and breaking up the cleansed tubular part, sepg. the lamp part (5), the base (7) and the holder (4) removing the connection device (6), removing residual glass particles from the lamp part (5), sepg. the lamp part from the residual connection means, sepg. the base (8,() from the main base support (7) and sorting into metal and insulator material. Amt. of special scrap contaminated with Hg is extremely low and can be handled conventionally of. Discharge vessel is pref. ultrasonically vibrated to loosen material inside before being broken open. By local heating and mechanical vibration, stresses introduced into the lamp thereby lowering the fracture resistance. By sepg. the lamp and base parts along the lamp axis, the face holding the two parts together is removed. This is carried out by cutting using two insertions in the joint area. ADVANTAGE - Material can be recycled with using a liq. medium.
