摘要 To monitor the breathing function of a patient, to establish life, at least one gas sensor (G1) gives a detection action according to the partial oxygen pressure, to give oxygen partial pressure of the exhaled air by time. The periodic partial pressure change is used to monitor the breathing function. Also claimed is an appts. with a thermally insulated measurement chamber (M) containing at least one gas sensor (G1). Gas channels (V1,V2) ensure that ambient air is the inhaled air and that the exhaled air flows through the measurement chamber (M). An ion conductive gas sensor (G1) is pref. used, which uses air (L) as the reference gas, and its Nernst voltage indicates the partial oxygen pressure. The gas sensor (G1) is of ZrO2, SiTiO3, BaTiO3, TiO2 or CeO2, for electron conductivity, with changes in conductivity and resistance to give the partial oxygen pressure. Two gas sensors can be used, where the second sensor gives a resistance change only on temp. variations to give partial oxygen pressure related to temp.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is for monitoring the breathing function of human and animal patients, especially during surgery. The system functions, independently of temp., without constant calibration.
