A muscle training device has an arrangement (15) for receiving a user and an actuating member (10) linked to one end of a traction element (6) and kinematically linked by the traction element (6) to a height-adjustable weighting unit in such a way that when the actuating member (10) is moved in one direction the weighting unit is lifted and when the actuating member (10) is moved in the opposite direction the weighting unit is lowered. In order to reduce the weight of the device, the weighting unit is constituted by the receiving arrangement (15), which is mounted so as to be height-adjustable, so that the weight of the body of the user is used as the load.
