The machine forms a strand of tobacco during the mfr. of cigarettes. The tobacco is brought to the machine by a perforated suction band (3) above a trough (9) and there is a shaping trough for forming the tobacco strand and surrounding it with layers of foil. A forming band (17) and a wrapping band (18) pass over rollers onto the lip of a forming cone (12) which tapers and moulds the foils round the tobacco strand and compresses it. A further forming device (4) closes the top of the groove. There is a central rib (23) in the floor of the forming cone (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - Formation of tobacco strand for mass prodn. of cigarettes.
