<p>In order to carry out a double roll type continuous casting operation according to the present invention, a clearance is provided between an end surface of a cold roll and a side weir, or between the circumferential surface of the cold roll and a side surface of the side weir, and a DC magnetic field is applied vertically to the end portion of a molten metal in a basin which is in the vicinity of the side weir in the pouring basin with a DC current applied in a concentrated manner to the same end portion of the molten metal, whereby an electromagnetic force directed to the central portion of the molten metal around a corner portion thereof is generated to prevent the leakage of molten metal from the clearance mentioned above and the occurrence of runout or hot band. In order to apply a DC current in a concentrated manner to the end portion of the molten metal, various means are provided, which include a means for bringing an electrode into slide contact with the end surface of the cold roll, a means for bringing an electrode into slide contact with a good conductor provided on the end surface of the cold roll via an insulating portion, or a means for burying a good conductor in the side weir. <IMAGE></p> |
