PURPOSE:To make the utilization efficiency of light high and set a specific visual angle direction of a visual angle panel in a desired direction. CONSTITUTION:This projection type liquid crystal display device is equipped with a polarized light source part 11 which emits linear polarized light or elliptic polarized light, or partial polarized light containing a large polarized light component vibrating in the specific direction, band separating optical means 12 and 13 which is arranged so that the polarized light emitted by the polarized light source part is made incident as S-polarized light or P-polarized light and separates the light into determined wavelength bands, polarized light state converting means 14-16 which rotate the planes of polarization of the polarized light passed through the band separating optical means 14-16, liquid crystal modulating means 17-19 which receive and modulate the polarized light passed through the polarized light state converting means, and a projection optical system 24 which projects and displays the modulated light. |
