PURPOSE:To obtain a stable image without lowering throughput by dividing recording element rows into a plurality of groups in first and second recording modes by a control means and performing recording scanning two or more times using different groups with respect to the predetermined region of a recording material to record an image. CONSTITUTION:A selection means 201 selects either one of a first recording mode performing recording scanning in one of forward and backward movements and a second recording mode performing recording scanning in both of them. A control means 1201 controls the recording scanning to the predetermined area of a recording material corresponding to the recording mode selected by the selection means and divides recording element rows 1207-1210 into a plurality of groups in the first and second recording modes and performs recording scanning two or more times using different groups with respect to the predetermined area of the recording material to record an image. As a result, a stable image can be obtained without lowering throughput.
