PURPOSE:To effectively produce 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene by controlling depression of catalyst activity and stably keeping a long term catalyst activity. CONSTITUTION:In producing 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene by subjecting naphthalene or a 2-alkylnaphthalene to react with an alkylation agent consisting of a polyalkylbenzene or a polyalkylnaphthalene, the reaction is carried out using a metal oxide catalyst such as Y type zeolite and further in the presence of an inactive solvent such as decaline at 100-600 deg.C.
