TWO SPEED PLANETARY TRANSMISSION

An internal combustion engine (10) is provided with a gear unit (16) driven by an end portion (12) of the crank shaft (12A). A belt pulley (24) is provided around the axis of the gear unit (16). The belt pulley (24) drives through a belt (64) an electric power generator (68). The gear unit (16) contains a planetary gear (18) of variable transmission ratio. The change of transmission ratio is effected by an hydraulically operated clutch (32) actuated by a hydraulic actuating device (46). A hydraulic pump (44) integrated into the gear unit (16), supplies pressurized oil to the actuating device (46). Further components of the circuitry containing the pump (44) and the hydraulic actuating device (46) are provided outside the gear unit (16) and are carried by a carrier plate (42). This carrier plate (42) contains parallel channels of the hydraulic circuitry. Simultaneously, the carrier plate (42) acts as a torque support for the gear unit (16) which is mounted on the end portion of the crank shaft (12A).
