<p>The invention relates to an automated process for the production of printing plates from a photopolymer plate (0) previously exposed to ultraviolet radiation so as to transform them into printing plates for flexography or typography or dry offset, characterised in that it includes at least the following steps: - lowering of the photopolymer plate (0), sensitive face downwards, into an etching tub (12), - etching by the resultant of an alternating horizontal motion of flat brushes (5) and of a reciprocating motion of the etching tub in a horizontal direction perpendicular to that of the brushes, the photopolymer plate being held automatically during etching by gravity.
