A gas-fuelled cigarette lighter has an ignition device comprising a friction wheel 7 with friction teeth 8 on an axial end face against which is pressed, by means of a spring-loaded pressure component 10, a flint 9. As shown, the spring- loading is effected by a coil spring 21 in compression between a ring 12, which is integral with component 10, and a collar 18 of precombustion chamber 13, which contains porous material and has at one end a radial bore 17 and at the other end is connected through a valve 4 to a screw-in fuel container 3. Abutting surfaces 19, 20 of collar 18 and friction wheel 7 respectively are undulating-Fig. 3- so that when wheel 7 is rotated, the resulting periodic up-and-down movement of precombustion chamber 13 against attachment 5 of valve 4 releases gas through this valve. The gas flows through precombustion chamber 13 and out through bore 17, where it is ignited by a spark. The gas flow can be increased, both by screwing container 3 into housing 1, and by pressing button 16, which forces chamber 13 down on to attachment 5, thereby opening valve 4. In another embodiment, the lighter has the external form of a propelling pencil. The pressure component may take the form of a rod with a hook at one end (Fig. 5, not shown) the hook urging the flint against the friction wheel. |
